Camp Sherman 2021

Fifteen trainees enjoyed a weekend at Camp Scherman honing their skills. Training activities covered skills such as route simplification, compass skill, distance estimation, map contact, and contour reading. The small group allowed for a more personal training experience.

On Sunday, over 100 showed up to run courses through the camp set by Darren Robinson. Camp Scherman is a difficult setting job, because we don't generally get advance access and the setting is all completed on Saturday. This means there is not an opportunity for the setter to double check their work in the field. Unfortunately, this year we ended up with a misplaced control. Number 119 was one reentrant further south than circled. Most people on the courses affected found the control with some time loss. A few continued on their course without finding it. The posted results are shown as usual without any adjustment for this. After analyzing the splits, we will be giving COOL points for the course, taking the misplacement into account. This page explains how the scoring will work.
