We had over 100 participants at Firestone Scout Reservation to try out the new version of the map. Reports on the map and courses were positive, with people appreciating the great hillside running and the detail to navigate the vegetation. The rain managed to stay away and the conditions were excellent for orienteering. Courses were short but steep, with some near 7% climb. Finding minimal climb routes was an important strategy.
SDO member Julian Ouellet ran away with the Red course, besting George Grindley by four minutes. George had a close race, however, with Anton Zhiganov, Alex Kiperman, and Roland Hansson all within the space of a few minutes. On the other expert courses Lorenzo Rossi and Bruce Garbaccio took top honors, while Aaron Matheson and Lauren Gao were the top COOL Varsity runners.
Troy Cadet Tharun Manigandan won the Orange course and teammate Kaileo Truong won Yellow. Wayne Cottrell once again whizzed through White before his Orange course, while team Super Sloths took second place on White.
